Respecting Tradition

18 July 2026

饮水思源 (yǐn shuǐ sī yuán) is a Chinese value that implores us to "think of the source while we drink the water". The same cannot be said more about learning the history and tradition of a wine region while we claim to enjoy and love the wine.

Bourgogne prices was never what it is today.

Scarcity of supply definitely plays in favour of the rising prices of Bourgogne wines. Unlike Bordeaux classified growth where (technically and in theory) you could increase production to meet higher demand, Bourgogne with the demarcated land does not allow for supply to increase.

This game favours those with deep pockets to acquire land than families long farming non the region. And when the prices are these high, they also that need to drive extreme hype and perceived scarcity to get their investors the ROI they seek at the beginning. And hence, the rise of cult wines with producers people cannot even articulate why are hyped.

AWR readers, are those that we know treasure families and stories that can cut through the noise. You look beyond the hype and discern the families who do not depend on hype branding to shout to the world that they make exceptional wines. Our cover story, Amiot-Servelle, is a true example of this.
